In-Country Advocacy Skills Enhancement Workshop, Uganda
In the spirit of PLP fellow initiatives, and advocacy workshop was held in March 2006, in Uganda. This
workshop, facilitated by Philippine PLP Fellows Roberto Ador and Ramon San Pascual and funded by the PLP, brought together
Ugandan public and private public health professionals. Thirty -five individuals from 25 civil society organizations were
in attendance.
The workshop’s main objective was to enhance advocacy skills of these participants and their organizations.
At the end of the workshop, members recommended that an existing advocacy body (Uganda Reproductive Health Advocacy
Network) be revitalized. Other key actions included: transforming policies into action; strengthening horizontal and
vertical networks among stakeholders; promotion of good governance and capacity building at all levels; and, enhancing
information sharing and data collection for advocacy. The most pressing identified advocacy issue was increased budget
allocation towards reproductive health in Uganda.
