The PLP helped me to look at things
with a broader perspective.  I made lots of contacts which
can help build my future career at home.

EthiopiaIn collaboration with Packard Foundation's Ethiopia Country Office, the PLP is establishing partnerships with School of Public Health (SPH) at both Gondar University and Jimma University, to build leadership teaching capacity as well as to strengthen the relationships between the universities and their respective regional public health bureaus.
The first phase of the program will be a five-day training in Addis Ababa in late April, 2008. Selected SPH faculty from Jimma and Gondar will join with PLP faculty to participate in the training designed to introduce new leadership development models that Jimma and Gondar faculty can apply and integrate into the curriculum of their home universities.

In addition to the training, best practices for translating research into policy work will be shared with faculty at both Jimma and Gondar as they expand their efforts to link their work with advocacy efforts. Finally, PLP Fellows from the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) will link efforts with the SPH Jimma and Gondar faculty to improve communication between academic and the work of regional health bureaus and clinics. This work is particularly needed as Ethiopia moves toward a more decentralized health service delivery system.
